What do you do when your family do not support your Virtual Assistant business idea? My main advice here would be to pick them up and throw them in the nearest bin, but they’ll likely just crawl out again so we need to think of some long term tactics.

Joking aside, I fully appreciate it can knock you right off your train of excitement when just one person looks at you like ‘are you having a laugh’ or worse still actually says that out loud.

But let’s put this into perspective here.

It’s highly unlikely they’re a VA so exactly where are they coming up with their negativity around becoming one.

And please allow me to throw this into the mix rather boldly – I am a successful VA. Have been since late 2015 so it’s rather likely I know more than Uncle Dave who worked all his life on the buses.

Anyway, enough of me thinking I am something special, let’s get back to the most important thing here… you.

Right, so your family member, or friend, has listened to your idea about becoming a Virtual Assistant and given you all their valuable advice on why you’re a fool and therefore EVERYTHING you’ve read up to now becomes irrelevant and that family / friends advice trumps it all.

I suspect you can see where I am going here, right?

They’re not even in a position to give you this advice unless they have indeed started their own VA business and done everything required to make it a success (that everything is in my VA Starter Guide by the way).

Now, there’s no doubt you got to the point where you felt you wanted to make steps to quit your life limiting 9-5 and live a happier, healthier, wealthier life as a VA by reading up on it, watching TikTok or YouTube videos or speaking to others. So first off, you already know an enormous amount more than this friend / family member who thinks it’s a bad idea.

So when they come at you with their negative advice it may help if you:

1. educate them with your knowledge
2. explain to them why this is important to you
3. show them others who are where you aim to be
4. talk to them about the benefits

Even after doing this you will still have that niggling doubt in your mind that perhaps they’re right so to enable you to get you back on track do these two things:

1. return to the place where you gather your knowledge and strength on becoming a Virtual Assistant. Perhaps it’s TikTok?
2. speak to someone who is where you want to be – an established VA – so you know this is actually possible.

Finally, don’t be disheartened if your family still doesn’t support your Virtual Assistant business idea; instead, be determined to pursue your dream and show them that you can make it happen with or without their help.
