Comparisonitis: Here’s the only person you should be competing with in business
Comparisonitis: How often have you been scrolling through your social channels and come across someone who stirs up emotions of shock, jealousy, self loathing, failure in you because they are ‘living their best life’ and are so much further ahead in business than you.
Come on, I bet you’ve felt it at least once? Comparisonitis….
It’s natural, and I do believe we have to review what we’re doing from time to time to make sure we’re on track. However, we must not compare our success and progress against anyone else and here’s three reasons why:
- This person isn’t relevant to your unique goals whatever they may be. Perhaps a holiday home, a secure retirement, your first home, a wedding, more children. This person who you’re letting mess with your mind is not relevant to any of that so dismiss them, you don’t need them in your life.
- It’s highly likely their quick success will have no longevity because they’ve not created a following, or an audience that will be around for long, they’re not focusing on their long term authority – but I am hoping you are by collating testimonials, constantly building your audience, engaging with your audience, creating your bread and butter income and building a sustainable business – that is important, not some quick revenue in your bank account one month and then wondering how you’ll maintain that income throughout the months that follow.
- People lie! Yes, people lie. There is a tactic where you tell your audience / potential clients that you’re nailing business, you’re doing this, you’re earning that, you’re achieving this for your clients, but… they’re lying. It was really hard for me to even imagine that people do this. Why would they? How stupid would they look if they got found out and they do / will get found out because all the new people who invest in them won’t get the success they think they’re going to get. So, if something makes you stop and wonder ‘how are they so much further ahead than me?’ consider this point as one of the possible answers!
So who should you compare yourself with?
You!
Because you are unique.
Here’s to your continued success!
