Finding your confidence as a new Virtual Assistant can be a challenging process.
You’ve likely spent a good few years as an employee where most things are done for you and it doesn’t really matter if you mess up.
But now, as the one in charge and the one doing all the work, it’s scary right?
There are so many stages we go through mentally on our journey to full time Virtual Assistant and the confidence one can be hard when it hits, so here’s how to get through it:
- Only offer services you’re confident and competent in: honestly, I know it feels safer to say yes to everything because you don’t want to lose clients or the opportunity of work, but this is one of the main reasons new VAs give up. It is so stressful doing stuff you’ve literally no idea about and you soon find Google does not have all the answers. If you can’t do something let the client know immediately it’ll relieve so much stress for you and will mean you are confident in what you’re doing
- Set achievable goals: Setting achievable goals for yourself will help you feel more confident and in control. Break down your tasks into manageable chunks and focus on completing them one at a time. So, your overall goal might be to ‘have a team of associates and earn £10k a month as a Virtual Assistant’. It can happen, but it’s a long way off, so let’s start with ‘get my first / second client’ or ‘get my contracts ready‘. Small steps lead to greater things. I suspect someone philosophical has said that but I CBA to Google and find out.
- Connect with other Virtual Assistants: You’re not alone in this journey. Connect with other Virtual Assistants who can provide support and advice. This can help you feel less isolated and more confident in your own abilities. My group mentoring programme has provided so much support to many new and aspiring Virtual Assistants. I’d love you to join us.
- Celebrate your successes: Don’t forget to celebrate your successes, no matter how small you think they may be. Celebrating your successes will help you recognise your strengths and build your confidence. So, if all you’ve done today is set up your insurance and connect with a few more business owners on LinkedIn you need to celebrate that as a win, because you’re leaps and bounds ahead of the aspiring VA who hasn’t done that today.
- You deserve this: don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You really do deserve a happier, healthier, wealthier working life. You don’t need to be in a toxic 9-5 that takes you away from enjoying moments in your life. I believe in you!
You can do this.
